When I was 20 I was invited to audition for a popular cover band after I was heard singing Bon Jovi’s living on a prayer drunk at a karaoke bar by one of the band members sister. I didn’t know at the time that I had good singing voice, but apparently I did.
Shortly after this I became their new new frontman and instead of having to wait tables and work behind bars to to earn money during my student years, playing paid gigs helped cover rent, put my through university and paid for my student loan.
After 4 busy years of playing covers and many gigs/festivals, we took a hiatus and worked on originals, as I felt that I had sufficiently developed my confidence and my vocals . We cut a 10 track demo which caught the interest of a local businessman who put it into the hands of a management agent based in New Orleans, US. The timing was perfect as I had just graduated from varsity and the opportunity arose to do a 6 month tour of the US which saw us performing in multiple states to music execs and wide audiences, including venues such as The Viper Room and The Roxy in Los Angeles.
I have been out of the scene for a few years but having recently immigrated to the UK and knowing how much joy playing in a rock band gave me as well as providing me with a decent income (especially doing covers) I am chomping at the bit to get back on the stage to perform with likeminded musicians.
